Our Vision

Newbiggin by the Sea is a community on the move.  We believe that the next five years will see a new identity for Newbiggin as a Maritime Heritage Village, a new brand for our community and a significant growth in the local economy, business confidence will inexorably grow, we will see new business start-ups as an increase in the prosperity of current local businesses.

The close-knit nature of the community will act as an appropriate springboard from which to address the undeniable social ills that have been a feature of the village in recent years.  We envisage a future where opportunity rather than narrow horizons define the life chances of our young people, where a new economy, based on tourism and local pride, develops in a vibrant and forward looking community. Newbiggin will become ‘the place to be’ on the North East Coastal Heritage Trail for housebuilders, new residents, businesses and visitors in the first decades of the 21st century.

Our Mission

To provide a Heritage Maritime Centre together with facilities for a maritime education and training centre for young people. The Centre will be a focus for encouraging visitors to the village along an established trail of related attractions which will help assist the economy of the village.  The Centre will play a crucial role in this development of Newbiggin. It is a landmark venture, a testimony to the determination of local people to succeed and a ‘New Beginning’ for our community.

The Centre will be the reception venue for visitors as well as a community facility beside the seaside.  This will act to promote repeat visits to Newbiggin by the Sea and lift the profile of the village in the region and beyond.
